No matter which national employer survey you read the vast majority, if not all, cite ‘lack of skills’ or ’skills’ as the biggest challenge facing business growth.
Locally when over 300 businesses were asked ‘what do you see as the most serious barriers to economic growth?’ - shortage of skills was the top answer.
The workplace skills world is a complex and challenging environment. Competition between publically funded providers leads to duplication, with many employers becoming exasperated by the amount of providers attempting to sell them services – creating confusion and annoyance.
Our solution – the Reading Skills for Business initiative developed by Reading UK CIC in partnership with Reading College aims to de-mistify the local training offer by providing a single point of contact for employers looking to access workplace training.
For more information on how your company could benefit from workplace training, including how to access government grants and apprenticeships contact Sarah Callaghan – Skills for Business Co-ordinator on Sarah@livingreading.co.uk
