As Jelly celebrates their 25th birthday they also host the 5th annual Open for Art festival from July 2 to July 8.  openforart

The 7 day event takes in multiple locations throughout the town centre with walk and talks, workshops and events just a few of the things to get involved in.

The event has been generously sponsored by The Oracle, Reading Business Improvement District, Cream Design, Reading UK and RG Spaces, as well as all the venues and hosts.

To commemorate the silver jubilee of Jelly, they have invited 25 people with special connections to the organisation to each curate an event, host a workshop or do a talk as part of the weeklong celebrations.

Open for Art 2018 will also see the launch of Artline on the final day of the festival, July 8. Artline is a new visual-arts street market on Broad Street and was made possible thanks to the Reading Business Improvement District in partnership with Jelly’s Open for Art festival.

Artline aims to attract people to Reading and support the town centre economy while profiling Reading as the cultural destination that it is becoming, with a strong artistic community.

Work on display will include paintings, photography, drawings, limited edition prints and hanging textiles.

openforart2Bobby Lonergan, Reading BID Manager, said: “Artline is a new addition to the BID’s town centre cultural programme which encompasses events such as Eat Reading, ARENA and the weekly street food markets.

“Broad Street is perfectly suited to showcasing the work of Reading’s artistic community and we are excited to be able to provide a chance for the public to enjoy, and hopefully purchase, great art while making the most of everything else Reading town centre has to offer on a summer Sunday.”

Open for Art officially launches on Monday July 2 at Broad Street Bar and Kitchen at 8am, whilst the rest of the weeklong event will take in areas all across the town centre and surrounding areas.
