Royal Berkshire Hospital rated 'Outstanding'


royalberksThe Royal Berkshire Hospital in central Reading has been rated Outstanding by CQC


Patients made special mention of their caring nature as inspectors rated the establishment Outstanding.

The hospital on Craven Road was given the overall rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who serves as the independent regulator for all health and social care services in England.

Inspectors concluded that the hospital had made ‘significant improvements’, with staff able to demonstrate improvement in a range of services, including urgent and emergency care, medical care, elderly care, surgery, critical care and outpatients.


The hospital was rated ‘outstanding’ for caring and responsiveness and ‘good’ for being safe, effective and well-led after the inspection in September and October 2017.


A number of individual areas were highlighted for their outstanding practice, including the introduction of a one-stop urology clinic which in the report is described as ‘improving the service, reducing patients waiting times and increasing overall satisfaction among patients and staff’.


The hospitals cardiac care unit has been the most effective 24/7 heart attack service across the country for the last 7 royalberkshireyears due to the team’s innovative approach, teamwork and sustained effort to improve quality.


The inspectors highlighted an outstanding culture of care across the entire hospital, with the wellbeing of patients being at the centre of everything staff do. Staff are said to be proud to work at the hospital and deliver care in line with its visions and values.


Inspectors also picked out the hospitals continuous work to be more efficient and improve patient outcomes as a point for praise and recognition.
