Reading Abbey Revealed


abbey2The re-opening of the Abbey Ruins is set to be one of the must-attend events of the summer with so much to enjoy in the Abbey Quarter.

The Abbey Revealed, Water Fest and Blue Collar’s Feastival will bring accompany the re-opening of the Abbey with a spectacular event revealing the exciting history of Reading with entertainment and activities for all ages.  

The Forbury Gardens will host re-enactors in the historic encampment, waiting for you to listen to their stories. There will be a variety of historic crafts available to challenge your creative sides. Reading Museum will have a pop-up stall, whilst local favourites Blue Collar will host their famed ‘Feastival’ in the gardens to make sure no one goes hungry. There will also be medieval and civil war demonstrations, both of which have decades of tales intertwined with the Abbey’s own history.

River Thames 5Inside the newly restored Abbey Ruins you can explore a structure almost a millennia old, enjoy performances by local artists and meet iconic characters from the Quarters past.

Head down to the River Kennet and admire the charming narrow boats occupying the waters before taking a ride on some. There will also be plenty of charity and community stalls to pick up memoirs of the day and stay refreshed.


The Abbey Revealed will take place on the 16th of June from 11am – 5pm in the Abbey Ruins with the surrounding events taking place in the Forbury Gardens and River Kennet.
