The inaugural Reading Cultural Awards have received over 350 nominations celebrating the town’s arts, cultural and heritage. The entries have now been whittled down to 50 finalists [see notes to editors] across 12 categories who will be vying to be one of the first winners of the Reading Cultural Awards.

Reading’s brilliant cultural scene reached new heights during last year’s Reading Year of Culture.  Nigel Horton-Baker, Executive Director of Reading UK CIC, organisers of the awards, said: “We were absolutely delighted to have received over 350 nominations for the first year of the awards, which demonstrates not only the range and depth of the cultural scene in Reading but the level of support for the arts locally.

“Arts and culture are at the heart of what makes Reading such a great place to live, work and do business. The 50 finalists for the Reading Cultural Awards 2017 represent the cream of creativity in our town.”

The awards were open to everyone involved in the arts in Reading in any form and recognise excellence in arts and culture with awards in 12 categories to reflect the breadth of the Reading arts scene, including a Made in Reading Award, Cultural Ambassador Award, Young Talent, Cultural Space Award and Performance of the Year.

The will culminate in a glitzy awards ceremony on 29 June at the historic Olympia Ballroom. The Awards are sponsored by Reading UK CIC, the Olympia Ballroom and The Banquet Kitchen (Catering).

Prianka Dillon the Managing Director of the Olympia Ballroom and The Banquet Kitchen (Catering) said: “The arts and culture scene of any town represents the heart and spirit of that community; the Olympia Ballroom is absolutely delighted to play host to the celebration of the heart and spirit of Reading town, which we proudly call home!”
