From 12 April, outdoor attractions, boat trips and tours reopen in Reading and there's lots to choose from. Museum (indoors) and indoor attractions are planned to open from 17 May.
Beale Wildlife Park will open seven days a week from Monday 12th April. The Park is an outdoor wildlife park within 30 acres set against the River Thames just outside Reading. Visitors are encouraged pre-book. New activities for 2021 include a bouncing pillow, additional catering outlets around the Park and visitor experiences with the animals. New animals include a dwarf crocodile, a Lynx, Scottish Wildcats and a small herd of Shetland ponies who are full of character.

Take a 45 minute round-trip (operating daily 12 - 18 April) on the open top boat, The Caversham Princess, giving lovely views of the Thames. Setting off from Caversham Pier in the centre of Reading, it is a lovely way to explore the area. From 19 April, services run weekends only until 17 May with choices of 25, 60 or 90 minute tours. A full service of trips runs from 17 May.
The MERL garden, cafe and shop will reopen on Wednesday 14th April, in line with Government guidelines (museum galleries reopen 17 May). The cafe will open for takeaway and outdoor consumption only. Outdoor seating will be available, with new parasols for protection from the elements. The garden offers a peaceful, safe place to relax. picnic and play. From picnic benches on the large lawn to a secluded herb garden, woodland walk and play-on tractor there's space for everyone.

Banksy has celebrated Oscar Wilde's connection with Reading and the campaign to Save the Gaol with a wonderful piece of street art on the walls of the prison. Follow the map to find it and explore the Abbey Ruins while you are there.
Visit the ruins during their 900th year. Founded by King Henry I of England in 1121, the ruins are open every day and are free to visit. As well as the extensive ruins, you should look out for Jane Austen's school room and Reading's Oscar Wilde connection.
